Retrievers & Friends of Southern California is a non-profit, all-volunteer rescue that operates independently and without any government funding. All financial support to operate the rescue comes from donations and adoption fees, and goes directly to the care of the dogs - we have no paid staff!
ADOPTION FEES - FAQs
The typical adoption fee includes the complete vet care described above. It is difficult to find a vet that will complete spay/neuter, vaccinations, de-worming and microchip for this price. However, we have not only covered this expense but have also cared for the puppy until he/she is ready for a new home with a family who will receive a lifetime of love from their new addition.
Adoption fees for younger dogs allow us to help care for senior or special needs dogs who of require extra veterinary attention and stay in our program longer.
Adoption fees do not cover specific costs for a particular dog. However, along with donations, the adoption fees cover the cost of operating a rescue program. We have many expenses incurred in caring for the dogs, including the purchase of dog food, veterinary medications, supplies, and laundry detergent for washing blankets. Administrative expenses also must be covered such as liability insurance, phone bills, gasoline for transporting dogs and doing home visits, etc.
